What Is Coolness? Effects and How to Raise It
Coolness affects active item cooldown, room reward drop rates, and chest fuse chance in Enter the Gungeon — understanding it helps you plan your runs more effectively.

Coolness is a hidden stat in Enter the Gungeon that doesn't appear on your HUD, but influences several important mechanics.
Because nothing on screen tracks it, it is easy to overlook entirely — yet it drives your active item cooldown, your room reward drop rate, and the odds of a chest carrying a
Fuses. Knowing which items raise Coolness means getting noticeably more out of the same luck. The sections below cover its effects, how to raise it, synergy bonuses, and the infinite-stacking combos.
Coolness Effects
Each point of Coolness reduces your active item's cooldown by 5%, up to a maximum of 50% at 10 points.
Coolness raises the base chance of receiving a reward after clearing a room. The base formula is (10 + Coolness - Curse)% (see
What Is Curse? Effects and How to Lower It for the Curse side). For every n rooms cleared without a reward, the 10 in that formula grows by 3 × 1.25ⁿ, up to a maximum of 20; once a reward drops it resets to the base chance. Rewards are 20% chest and 80% pickup.
Each point of Coolness reduces the chance of a chest having a fuse by 2.5%, up to a maximum of 10%.
In addition, the
Vorpal Gun's critical shot chance also increases with Coolness. In co-op it draws on the combined Coolness of both players, not just whoever is holding the gun.
The easiest way to gauge your current Coolness is by watching how much charge your active item recovers immediately after use. The higher your Coolness, the more it fills back. At the cap, using your active item leaves it already halfway charged — you only need half the kills to use it again.
Two things that are easy to get wrong: Coolness and Curse are unrelated and never cancel each other out (holding
Sixth Chamber is the only exception), and the room-clear reward chance is the one place both are fed into the same formula. Also, the game code says Coolness only raises the chest drop rate, but in practice it affects every drop.
