What Is Magnificence?

2026-07-16

Magnificence is a hidden stat that limits how many A and S tier items you can find in a single run — the more high-quality items you've picked up, the more likely future ones will be downgraded.

What Is Magnificence?

Magnificence is a hidden mechanic that prevents any single run from accumulating too many A quality or S quality tier items. Every time you pick up a high-quality item, the chance that future high-quality rewards get downgraded rises steeply.

How Magnificence is calculated

Total Magnificence at any moment is the sum of two separate counters:

Item Magnificence

  • Resets to 0 at the start of each run.
  • Increases by 1 the first time you pick up any A quality or S quality item or gun.
  • Dropping and re-picking-up the same item does not increase it again.
  • Selling or destroying the item does not reduce it — the increase is permanent.
  • Carries over to the next floor.

Chest Magnificence

  • Set to the number of red and black chests generated on a floor at the start of that floor.
  • Opening or destroying one of those floor-generated red or black chests decreases it by 1.
  • Other red or black chests that spawn mid-floor (e.g. room clears) do not affect it.
  • Resets each floor — unopened chests do not carry their value forward.

Downgrade formula

Whenever the game would give you an A quality or S quality reward — from a chest, room clear, boss drop, or shop — it checks total Magnificence and calculates a downgrade chance using this formula:

  1. Take your current Item Magnificence count.
  2. Take your current Chest Magnificence count.
  3. Add the two together and feed the total into the formula below to get this reward’s downgrade chance.

(1 − (0.006260342 + 0.9935921 × e^(−1.626339 × Magnificence))) × 100%

Unopened red and black chests suppress shop and room-clear rewards for exactly this reason: until the chest is opened, its point stays on the total.

In other words the watershed is the first A quality/S quality you pick up: before it nothing is suppressed, and after it almost everything is.

If a reward is downgraded, the quality is rerolled using the same floor distribution but excluding A quality and S quality, resulting in a D quality, C quality, or B quality item instead.
