• This weapon is a reference to the 'Pax Pox', a blanket term for diseases contracted at conventions, named after the Penny Arcade Expo , or 'PAX' convention. This is confirmed by a tweet released by the official Dodge Roll Games Twitter account on the 27th of April 2016 in which they announced "Enter the Gungeon brought the PoxCannon back from PAX! Available in the latest update on PC!" above a video demonstration of the weapon.
• This weapon may also be a reference to a practice of American colonists using smallpox infected blankets to spread disease among Native American peoples. [citation needed]
• The tagline refers to the merchandising meme "I [achieved something] and all I got was this lousy t-shirt". The term "Lousy" in this case may also refer to Lice, which are parasitic insects.
