• The Makeshift Cannon is one of the few guns able to ignore the Boss DPS cap natually. Because it only has one shot, it is recommended to only use it during boss fights.
• When the shots hit enemies and get destroyed they create an explosion, though it does not actually deal damage.

• The weapon's appearance and function is a reference to the Star Trek episode Arena , in which Kirk makes such a weapon out of bamboo, hand-mixed black powder, diamonds, and vines.
• The gun's pickup quote, "You Only Get One Shot", may be a reference to a line from the song, "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. It may also be a reference to the game OneShot , where the phrase and idea that "You only get one shot" is said and reinforced multiple times across the course of the game.
• The weapon takes on a special broken appearance after being fired, which is restored after its ammo is refilled.
